His manager of 15 years, Barry McPherson, confirmed the actor’s death to PEOPLE on Monday night.
“He was killed this afternoon. He was turning left or right [and] A car cut his way,” McPherson said. “I was just devastated. He is the nicest guy. He is so talented. ”
“He’s an actor’s actor. Filmmakers love him. He’s been a central figure in Hollywood since the late 1970s,” McPherson continued. “He’s very proud of what he’s done this year. He’s very happy with the job I’ve given him. He’s had a balanced career.”

Dorset, Vermont Fire Chief Jacob Gribble told PEOPLE that the crash happened around 5 p.m. Monday on Long Trail Auto 30 near Dorset, Vermont.
Per Gribble, the incident involved a car and Williams’ motorcycle. Investigators believe the driver of the car was making a turn and did not see the motorcycle. The motorcyclist was the only person injured and a LifeNet helicopter was called to airlift him to a New York hospital, Gribble said.

Manchester Fire Service responded by setting up a landing area for the helicopter. Other emergency services that responded included East Dorset Fire and Rupert Fire.
Vermont State Police also issued a news release late Monday confirming Williams’ identity and details of the accident. Police confirmed the investigation was at an early stage and team members would return to the crash site on Tuesday 13 June to continue working on the scene.

The actor is survived by his wife, actress Pam Van Sant, and their two children, Jill and Ellie.
