Today, the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) announced its highly anticipated new original documentary series, prime time, It will premiere on August 18th. The five-part, one-hour series celebrates the trailblazing magazine, which has reached more than 20 million black women and continues to produce some of the most influential front covers in its 50-year history.
Essence time will tell how Nature In the past half century, it has influenced and reflected the black culture in the United States. Each episode explores a different decade — from the ’70s to today — and features first-hand commentary on the era’s greatest moments from the icons, trailblazers, employees and leaders who lived and defined them. These candid discussions are combined with never-before-seen footage and exciting moments from the worlds of entertainment, sports, politics, fashion and beauty.
Upcoming series features interviews with fashion model and icon Beverly Johnson, Johnson’s daughter Anantha Sims, Oscar-winning actresses Halle Berry and Whoopi Goldberg, and ESSENCE Black Women in Hollywood Winners Shirley Lee Ralph, Regina Hall and Taye Diggs.iconic Nature Magazine editor Mikki Taylor, longtime editor and chief Susan L. Taylor, and current president and CEO Caroline Wanga also feature prominently in the program.
In addition to the aforementioned thought leaders, celebrities, and cultural influencers, the docuseries will also feature Golden Globe Award-winning actresses Taraji P.
