Dominican University of California is making history as the men’s and women’s lacrosse programs make the leap to NCAA Division II next season.
It will be the first NCAA Division II women’s hockey program and the second NCAA Division II men’s hockey program in California. Dominica’s other sports already compete at NCAA Division II.
“Both the men’s and women’s programs are led by two exemplary leaders in coaching [Samuel] Vogel Seidenberg and coach [Joseph] Manna,” said Amy Henkelman, Dominica’s athletic director. “Coach Vogel-Seidenberg has a clear vision for the men’s program and has done a fantastic job of supporting the sport and its growth. I’m very excited about the future of both projects. The young men and women in both programs have done everything we asked of them and made tremendous contributions to the Dominican community, campus and department. “
The Dominican men’s lacrosse team has competed in the Western Collegiate Hockey Conference at the club level as a member of the Men’s Collegiate Hockey Association since 2015, while the women’s team will compete in its inaugural season in the Women’s Collegiate West Lacrosse Conference in 2023. . The two teams will play as separate programs without any meetings.
“We’re excited to be back in the NCAA,” Vogel-Seidenberg said. “When I got here, my goal was to change the culture and increase the support of the university so we could make the leap to the NCAA level.
