The first major preseason All-Star college football team has been released, with the Army earning 13 selections on the esteemed Phil Steele All-Independent School team, six on the first team and seven on the second team.
The Army’s 2023 season begins Sept. 2 in Monroe, Louisiana. The home opener is September 9 against Delaware State.

first team
Cooper Allen, P – Allen, a sophomore from Franklin, Tennessee, has yet to play on a varsity team. He played at Independence High School and the United States Military Academy Preparatory School.
Isaiah Alston, WR – The 6-foot-4, 195-pound receiver from Carteret, New Jersey had 16 catches for 269 yards and a touchdown last season. His top game was seven catches for 123 yards against Wake Forest. In over 27 games, he has 40 receptions for 765 yards and four scores, including two games of more than 100 yards (both against Wake).
Connor Finucane, OL – A veteran captain in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, he started all 12 games in 2022 — eight at right guard, four at right tackle — increasing his starting streak to 25. field. He was named a Steelers Second Team All-Individual.
Leo Lowin, LB – A veteran captain from Austin, Texas, he started 11 of 12 games with 100 tackles (48 solo), 3 sacks, 2 interceptions, 3 pass defenses and 1 Forced to concede a goal to lead the team. He was named the Black Knights’ Army-Navy game player with a career-high 16 tackles, the last of five tackles in double figures. He was a defensive star on the Steelers’ second team and also known for his academics.

Tyson Riley, RB – The 6-foot-2, 255-pound linebacker played in nine games as a junior out of Mount Vernon, Mo., and missed two midseason games with an injury. He rushed for 441 yards (4.6 yards per carry) and two touchdowns. He had a career-best 158 rushing yards against Villanova, his only triple-digit mark.
Tyrell Robinson, punt returns – Robinson, a junior from Dallas, Georgia, is a triple threat in his run, pass and return game. He returned the ball for a 73-yard touchdown against Villanova last season. Was named a 2022 Steelers All-Star despite missing the season with a leg injury he suffered at Wake Forest. He missed the 2023 spring drills.
Second team
Jacoby Buchanan, RB – A 6-foot senior from St. Charles, Missouri, Buchanan had just one career rushing yard — he rushed for 1,401 yards and his 24 touchdowns rank 10th in college history. Buchanan, who was slowed by a left knee injury against Villanova, has had no more than 56 yards passing in the next seven games. He missed the 2023 spring drills.
Jimmy Ciarlo, LB – A senior captain from Ringwood, NJ, he started all 12 games at linebacker, racking up 55 tackles (third on the team) and defending two passes. Ciarlo had eight tackles against Colgate and nine against Navy. His first two seasons saw little time.
Jackson Filipovich, OL – Filipovitz, a 6-3 senior from Alpareta, Ga., started 11 games last season at left guard. He was named to the College Football Network’s All-Independent Offensive Second Team.
Kundlin Hammonds, DB – Hammonds, a 6-footer from Covington, Ga., started 11 games last season, had 52 tackles (29 solos), defended 3 passes and forced a fumble against Troy. Ball — He had a total of 12 tackles in his first two seasons. He has at least six stoppages in five games, seven with Troy and 10 against the Air Force.
Mount Austin, LB – Hill started five of 12 games as a veteran captain from Memphis, Tennessee. The 6-foot, 245-pound player had 41 tackles (19 solo), two fumbles and forced fumbles against Connecticut and Navy. He made seven stops for the Air Force and six for the Navy.
Jordyn Law, OL – The 6-foot-4, 295-pound junior from Nashville, Tennessee, started at left tackle in seven games last season and 25 career appearances. The highlight of his career was recovering an overtime turnover against the Air Force, securing the 2021 Army victory.
Jabari Moore, DB – The 5-11 senior from Hoover, Alabama started 10 games and recorded 30 tackles (14 solos), 1 interception and 5 pass defenses. He played in 46 career games and had 6 interceptions.
