It is rare to host the PGA Championship in a major US city. Instead, most activity is outside the cities on the outskirts of our outer regions. This is especially true for golf majors.

Not this week. From Thursday to Sunday, the third of golf’s four major championships will be played in the heart of America’s second-largest city, as the 123rd U.S. Open will be played at Los Angeles Country Club for the first time.

The course should be played like many other majors – most likely after a rigorous test in which one of the big names ends up lifting the trophy, and they need the best precision to escape brutal roughness and indiscretion Possible hitting situation. Scottie Scheffler wins (+950 for winning at DraftKings, +300 for any golfer’s opt-in bonus)

Our opinion: It’s very rare in any golf event that we pick a favorite player, but going through the data — including some of the player notes we talked about earlier — this seems to be our best game (especially when it comes to opt-in value aspects) in DK).

Scotty hasn’t stood out at all the past few months, but that’s only because we’re comparing him to Scotty Scheffler, who we expect to be in the top five every week. Really, that’s just because his putting let him down.

There’s reason to believe he’s been on the greens for the past 10 days preparing for that. A seventh-place finish two years ago and a second-place finish last year, he will no doubt crave this race as much as any other tournament he’s played.

+600 or +650 is of little value in most books, but with the opt-in bonus we can easily use it on Scheffler.

Parlay: Scheffler, Rory McIlroy and Patrick Cantlay will all be in the top 20 (+316 for FanDuel)

Our opinion: Like we said, cream rises to the top most often in the majors, and even more so at the U.S. Open.

We’ve pretty much got McIlroy at +1200 to +1400 depending on where you look at it, but his poor Sunday performances over the past month or so have scared us off. Still, it wouldn’t be a surprise at least if he won, but it would be a surprise if he didn’t play Sunday night.

Few have been as consistent as Cantlay, with 11 top-25 finishes and seven top-10 finishes in 14 starts. He has suffered just three cuts in two seasons and has finished 15th or better in back-to-back U.S. Opens.

Other players to watch: Tony Finau, Xander Schauffele and Tyrell Hatton (+2800 best deal?).
