The third major of the 2023 golf season continues on Friday, with behind-the-scenes controversy giving way to a stellar start to the 2023 U.S. Open at Los Angeles Country Club. History has 54 holes left as the venue hosts the first national championship in 75 years.
Rickie Fowler and Xander Schauffele stunned the golf world when they made U.S. Open history with an 8-under 62 on Thursday’s morning wave.In 2017 British Open Championship, Brendan Grace tied record low round in majors while soaring Fowler and Schauffele Get to the top of the leaderboard.
Not to be outdone, Dustin Johnson and Rory McIlroy rode the momentum in the afternoon to get as close as possible to the co-leaders. DJ was 7 under, but a final bogey allowed him to two shots back from Fowler and Schauffele, while McIlroy was 6 under for most of the back nine. , but swallowed a putt before the final crucial bogey, allowing him to drop a shot and end up sitting three shots behind the leader.
